THE BUILDING

Founded in 1949 on the first floor of the Live Stock Exchange building, the Golden Ox was the premier steakhouse in Kansas City where you could find everyone from ranching cowboys to U.S. Presidential candidates.  Situated in the heart of the Kansas City Stockyards, the Golden Ox fed off of the everyday commotion surrounding livestock sales, agricultural shows, and various events at Kemper Arena.  In December of 2014, the Golden Ox sold its last steak and closed its doors for good.  Not wanting such an iconic Kansas City landmark to be forgotten, Stockyards Brewing Company took over the space in the summer of 2015 in an effort to restore the rich history and nostalgia of the Golden Ox.  Having maintained much of its original character and decor, the spirit of the Golden Ox lives on in its famed location as what is now our bar and taproom.
